When you are in business, especially if you are the business owner, everyone expects you to walk the talk. By walking the talk it means you act in a way that agrees with what you say. Today, I want to ask you are you walking your talk? I’ll share three points that will demonstrate how you can do this.
Firstly, make sure you look the part. This is not about looking beautiful because you are a beauty therapist or looking healthy because you are a health coach, it’s not about that. I am talking about your message and what people think of you. Recently I was contemplating engaging somebody for my franchise partners in my HydroKleen business and I was particularly looking for an influential social media expert. I asked for recommendations and when I received them the first thing I did was to look them up online. I visited their Facebook pages and pored over their social media profiles. One thing I noticed about these so called ‘social media experts’ is they didn’t look the part.
I was looking for someone who is able to take my franchise partners to the next level but based on their social media profiles, I wasn’t convinced that they’d be able to do that. There was even a lady who justified why they have the worst social media page. She explained that because they handle so many social media pages they do not have the time to handle their own.
You have to realise that today everyone is on the Internet. If you want to know a business or a certain person, the fastest and most convenient place to look for them is online. So I want to ask you, what do you look like online? Do you look the part? If you claim to be a social media expert, then make sure you look like an expert when people search for your name on the Internet.
Secondly, lead by example. You have to show them that you are an expert in your industry. For example, if you are in the beauty industry, you can upload a video of yourself giving a makeup tutorial or you can suggest what beauty products to use to achieve beautiful skin. Similarly, if you are in the health industry, show people what you are eating or what type of exercise you’re going to do on that day and what muscles it will target. You don’t have to be perfect you just have to be real and lead by example.
Thirdly, check your message. What you post on social media represents who you are. If you aren’t confident about your message, check yourself out on Google because if someone is going to refer you to somebody else, without doubt the first thing they’ll do is to search for your name or your business online. So go ahead, Google yourself and try to review the message you are portraying. Does your message reflect who you are? What does your message say about you?
These are my three points that will help you walk your talk.
