When was the last time you listened to a memorable presentation? With the number of seminars, talks, and workshops an average person attends, it’s safe to say that a lot of those presentations are easily forgotten. Don’t let the talks you’ll give go down the drain! Here are three important techniques to leave a lasting impression on your audience and improve your public speaking skills.

1. Start Strong and Position Yourself

When speaking to an audience, one of your goals would be for them to remember you and your message. So, you have to be mindful of how you present yourself and start out strong because first impressions are important in public speaking.

Make it a point to start your spiel by capturing your audience’s attention. You can either tell a joke, an interesting fact, or a compelling story. It’s imperative that you get to know your audience and resonate with them. The key to keeping your audience interested is to engage with them as early as possible.

2. Truly Know The Purpose of Your Speech

One of the ways to reach out to your audience is to tell them why they need to listen to you attentively. While preparing for your speech, it’s important that you completely understand your message before you even deliver it. You want to determine what your audience needs to hear; how to convey your message effectively; and when to emphasise your point or insert humor.

3. Add a Call to Action (CTA)

By the end of your speech, give your audience a takeaway. Give them a clear and direct call to action following your speech. It’s better to have your audience act on your CTA as soon as possible while they’re still emotionally invested in your speech.

To ensure they’re immediate action, reduce the barriers as much as possible. For example, if you want your audience to sign up, bring out forms and pens and distribute them to your audience. Or if you want them to know more about a certain topic, you can hand out brochures, fliers, and whatnot.

To ensure your success as a speaker, leaving a lasting impression on your audience is important. Be engaging throughout the whole presentation and follow the three effective tips mentioned above.
