A lot of people say, “I need motivation to build my business,” or “I need motivation to find clients,” or “I need motivation to earn more money. It’s not motivation that you need; it’s actually discipline. When you become disciplined, then the motivation will come.

Here are some pointers around this.

Firstly, know what you want to achieve.

If you don’t know what you want to achieve, you are not going to be motivated, and you’re not going to be disciplined. Get a clear picture in your mind—this is what I want to achieve, by when, how much, how many clients, whatever measurement you want to use. It doesn’t matter; just measure it and have clarity around where you’re heading.

Secondly, set the plan.

What do you need to do, and how do you need to do that to reach your goal?

Set the discipline around your behaviors to achieve that goal.

Thirdly, take action.

Make sure that you are following your plan and you are doing your actions. What will happen is, when you take action, momentum will come. You’ll start getting some results, and then motivation comes because the more results you get, the more momentum you have. The more motivation will grow.

A lot of people start with motivation, but what you need to start with is discipline.
